MISSIONS COMMITTEE

"Then I heard the voice of the Lord, saying "Whom shall I send, and who will go for us?"
and I said, "Here I am, send me."   Isaiah 6:8

Trinity Church is involved in a variety of mission projects on a regular basis throughout the year as well as special projects that arise out of immediate unpredicted need.  When natural disaster strikes nationally or globally and a need is created, United Methodists' rise to provide for the need.  Needs such as the earthquake in Haiti, Hurricane Katrina Relief Project and Philippines vitamins collections are just a few examples.  Our Youth Group and Sunday School join in supporting these missions through their offerings and assembling of special supplies.  UMCOR spearheads the Methodists effort globally with the combined assistance of each separate congregation.

Locally, we donate to the Kendall County Food Pantry, Hesed House, Wayside Cross Mission, and Kendall County Crop Walk.  We donate food, supplies and money and serve at Hesed House, a homeless shelter in Aurora on a bi-monthly basis, currently the third Tuesday of the month.  We collect and donate food items monthly to the Kendall County Food Pantry.  We participate and raise money for the Kendall County Crop Walk which takes place in September each year.  Numerous Easter baskets are assembled by our Sunday School Children with donated items from our Congregation for the Wayside Cross Mission in Aurora each year.  Another local mission includes the Angel Tree, which provides for children in need in our community during the Christmas season.

PADS Ministry will be starting at Cross Lutheran Church on October 17, 2010.  The first night at Trinity will be Thursday, October 21st.  Please contact Deb Croyle, Christina Messersmith, Peg Zbinden or Trish in the Church office for more information at 630-553-7645.

Each month we donate our weekly loose coin offerings to a different global cause.  The first Sunday each month is 'Our Noisy Can' Sunday to see how noisy we can be with all the loose coins!  Among these ministries are Bethany Terrace Alzheimer's Care Center, Prison Release Ministry, Reynoldswood, Native American Ministry of Presence, Habitat for Humanity , Street Children Ministry, Aurora Shalom Ministries and Mother/Child Survival and several others.

Co-chairpersons are Marianne Wilkinson, Cindy Metzger and Emily Smith.

"Reaching Out to Neighbors" is a new program from the Kendall County Food Pantry
which needs lots of caring volunteers from Trinity.  It basically involves one on one mentoring
Food Pantry participants.  Help them apply for federal programs and find other of new
resources needed as they struggle with their situation.  The mentoring can be done days, nights,
 and/or weekends.

Grace Ministry will gladly accept squares from people who want to honor God’s commandment to love and care for one another.  If you would like to donate squares, need further information or have a request for someone in need, please call the church office or Doris Dick at 630-553-6926.

If you would like to learn how to knit or crochet, we are happy to teach who ever may want to learn, just join us or contact the Church Office for a contact name!
